Not at all. Not knowing exactly what you want is probably the most common place our clients start. Some come to us with a clear vision. Part of what we do is help you figure out what you actually want: your design style, how you will use the space, what is realistic for your building and your budget. You do not need to arrive with answers. Just curiosity.

Why does Garden Connections charge for the initial consultation when other companies offer free estimates?

Other companies offer free estimates because they are selling a product: a standard installation, a set menu of materials, a job they have done a hundred times before. Garden Connections is different. We are designers and master landscape architects. Before we recommend anything, we need to understand your space, your building rules, your lifestyle, and your vision properly. That takes expertise and time, and we respect both enough to charge for them. Think of it the way you would think of a physician or an architect. You would not expect a diagnosis for free. You would expect to pay for someone who gets it right.

How much does a balcony or terrace design project typically cost in Toronto or Vancouver?

It depends on the size of your balcony or terrace, the design direction, the materials, and what your building requires for approval. We do not offer one-size-fits-all pricing because no two projects are the same. What we can tell you is that clients who work with Garden Connections consistently find the result was worth the investment. A well-designed, properly installed outdoor space does not need to be redone every few years. We also work with phased approaches for clients who want to spread the investment over time.

My Condo Board or Strata Council is very strict. Is it even worth trying to get approval for a balcony transformation?

Almost certainly yes. We hear this concern often, and that is why we start building a relationship with your Property Manager from Day 1, so we find out very quickly if there are likely to be problems. In our experience, a strict board rarely means impossible. It usually means the approval process needs to be handled properly, with the right documentation, the right drawings, and the right approach. Garden Connections prepares everything your board needs: approval-ready design documentation, technical drawings, and engineering coordination where required. Does Garden Connections handle the Condo Board or Strata Council approval process, or is that on me?

We handle it. Fully. This is one of the things that sets Garden Connections apart: we do not hand you a design and leave you to navigate your building rules on your own. We prepare all the documentation your board requires, coordinate any structural engineering review for larger terrace projects, and work directly with your property manager where needed. You will need to provide some information and sign the application, but that is it. You will know what is happening at every step, but the heavy lifting is ours.

How long does a balcony or terrace design project take with Garden Connections?

A well-done transformation takes time: design, approvals, sourcing the right materials and installers, fabrication, and installation. For most projects, that is several months from start to finish. Autumn and winter are ideal for design and planning, with installation timed perfectly for spring and summer. The sooner you reach out, the sooner you are done. Only condominium owners can apply to modify, upgrade, or improve an exclusive-use common area balcony or terrace. If you are a renter, contact us. We may be able to give you some guidance about how to ask your landlord to consider a Garden Connections upgrade to the home you rent.
